About the Partnership

The principle function of Building Control is to ensure that any new building work is carried out in compliance with current regulations and standards. In this way, the Building Control service helps to ensure that buildings are safe and comfortable in use, accessible and energy efficient.

In addition to overseeing current building work, the Building Control team also perform important public service by ensuring that potentially dangerous buildings are made safe, and that unauthorised building work is brought up to standard.

Who we are

East Sussex Building Control is a Partnership organisation which carries out the Building Control function on behalf of four separate local authorities, covering Eastbourne and Hastings Boroughs, and Rother and Wealden Districts.

Our Goal

We aim to work with and alongside property owners, architects engineers and developers to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations. By providing a shared service over multiple authorities, customers working across the region can utilise a single point of contact for Building Regulations queries and applications, and expect a greater degree of consistency in service

Wealden District Council Building Control originally merged with Eastbourne Borough Council Building Control in April 2011 to form a partnership that led to Wealden taking over the building control for the Eastbourne area.

Wealden took on several staff members from Eastbourne because of this partnership who are still with us today.

With the previous partnership in place, the authorities decided to branch out to create a larger partnership by merging with Rother District Council and Hastings Borough Council Building Control to create one large partnership in April 2017.

The ESBCP now provides building control services from areas such as Forest Row and East Dean to Camber, This stretches across the entire Wealden district and through to the Rother District. – To see a map of the areas please see our Area Page.
